La figura de Quetzalcóatl-santo Tomás apóstol en el sermón de Fray Servando Teresa de Mier
Abstract
El presente trabajo enfocará principalmente la primera de las cuatro principales propuestas en las que está dividido el Sermón Guadalupano.2 En ella expresa el padre Mier que “la imagen de nuestra Señora de Guadalupe no está pintada en la tilma de Juan Diego, sino en la capa de Santo Tomás, apóstol de este reino”,3 bajo cuyo argumento nos basaremos para desarrollar esta investigación. La segunda propuesta tiende a justificar la primera, hablando de que, desde el siglo I, “nuestra señora de Guadalupe era ya muy célebre y adorada por los indios ya cristianos”.4 El padre Mier escribió esta parte bajo el supuesto de que estas tierras habían sido ya evangelizadas por el apóstol Santo Tomás.
