Opening a Chinese Box or Five Sieges on a Distich by Jorge Luis Borges
Abstract
Among the many, varied and enormous literary intellectual merits of Jorge Luis Borges, the one that stands out the most is that of imposture, or "false attributions," as he liked to call them. This fortunate literary habit is confirmed in the book Museo. Textos inéditos, co-authored with Adolfo Bioy Casares, which contains the short poem “Le regret d’Héraclite”, attributed to Gaspar Camerarius, previously published in the “Museo”, of El hacedor (1960). The purpose of this work is to unravel some of the mysteries surrounding these two Borgesian poetic lines, particularly that of the identities of Gaspar Camerarius and Matilde Urbach.Downloads
