In the Antechamber of Expectation: Subgroups of Moviegoers in Zacatecas City, 1950-1970
Abstract
From a historical perspective, knowledge of moviegoers has been based on indirect sources that allude to broad and amorphous groups. However, these were individuals with diverse social traits who, in some cases, were related to each other prior to film attendance, based on ties such as neighborhood, work, family or friendship. These ties are observable in the Daily Reports of Detainees, records kept by the Police Headquarters on misdemeanors and arrests in different areas of the city, including the cinema. The correlation of these documents with information from interviews with moviegoers between 1950-1970, allows us to know who the spectators were, how they converged with each other, with the city and with the particularities of the cinematographic event in the locality.Downloads
