El constitucionalismo liberal en la Nueva España, 1820: figuras de autoridad y opinión pública
Abstract
Este trabajo se ocupa de algunos de los elementos que tejieron esa legitimidad liberal en el plano discursivo durante 1820. Gracias al restablecimiento de la libertad de imprenta se publicaron en ese año cientos de folletos en los que se proclamaban los valores del constitucionalismo triunfante; es lo que se ha dado en llamar la “euforia constitucional” o la “primavera liberal de 1820”.3 Esos folletos, que dan cuenta del grado de difusión que había alcanzado el vocabulario del liberalismo gaditano en la Nueva España, se convirtieron, a su vez, en medios de publicidad de esevocabulario, con sus referentes ideológicos (la idea de nación soberana, la representación liberal y la proclamación de las libertades ciudadanas) y las imágenes que se consolidaron alrededor de éstos. El asunto a considerar es la manera en la que el restablecimiento de este sistema político desató una serie de imágenes y símbolos de autoridad que fueron proclamados en los discursos públicos generados al amparo de la libertad de imprenta, y cómo los diversos actores políticos de la Nueva España adecuaron su conducta a los nuevos marcos de legitimidad.Downloads
