Art and art museums in the United States. A historiographic review

Abstract

In this historiographic review, the aim is tracing the process of construction and consolidation of artistic projects, as well as art museums at United State’s 19th century. Throughout the writing, two moments of the American artistic and cultural process will be described: first, the nationalist and civilizing stage; and, second, the open and cosmopolitan stage.

Leonardo Arreola, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana
Licenciado en sociología egresado de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Azcapotzalco). Estudiante de la maestría en Historiografía por la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Azcapotzalco). He sido ayudante del Área de Análisis Sociológico de la Historia del Departamento de Sociología (UAM-A). He impartido los cursos Introducción a la Sociología del Arte e Historia de la Pintura en México en el espacio UAMedia de la UAM-A.
