“Zoot Suit”: Luis Valdez’ interpretation about three women during the “Sleepy Lagoon” case as well as the turmoil in Los Angeles

Abstract

Luis Valdez, “Father of the Chicano Theater” with the creation of the “Acts” as a way of inducing social consciousness as well as political denouncement, changes his production with “Zoot Suit”. This play touches the historical facts more  than the asimmetry in the working relationships. In the middle of both “Sleepy Lagoon” case as well as the “Zoot Suit riots”, he ponder the “Pachuco” image. In this essay it is analyzed women’s participation side by side  with the Zoot Suiters. Women protected their men whether they were brothers, friends,boyfriends or husbands. Although they were arrested.
