Abstract

Gardens and orchards were an important cultural tradition in ancient Mexico. The sixteenth and eighteenth centuries witnessed the rise of a growing body of knowledge from both native and European vegetation brought from overseas. The National Palace Garden arises from the combination of the Mexican herbal tradition, botany, chemistry and medicine. Today it has lost its original significance.
