Imayō, Prostitutes´ s Songs: the Visibility of the Asobi and Kugutsu and their Lyrical Production
Abstract
The article makes visible the musical production and history of two types of Japanese prostitutes from the Heian period 平安時代 (A.D. 794-1185), called asobi遊女 and kugutsu傀儡. Specifically, it analyzes the musical compositions imayō今様, taking as its main source the book Ryōjin Hishō 梁塵秘抄 (The dance of the dust). Since the history of the asobi has been little studied, this work rescues the importance of these artists and their production. In this sense, the research looks for contributing to Japanese gender studies within the Spanish-speaking world.Downloads
