Kyra Kyralina and Mister President. Empowering feminine characters to represent gender challenges
Abstract
Applying both comparative literature and empowerment concept, Panait Istrati’s Kyra Kyralina and Miguel Ángel Asturias’ Mister President (El señor Presidente) were analysed and compared. Furthermore, terms and stances from gender theory were utilised to highlight the construction of feminine characters in both novels. Conclusion was that the depictions correspond to individual (in Istrati’s work) and social (in Asturias’ work) kinds of empowerment.Downloads
