Bilingualism: the Current Situation between Mazatec and Spanish

Abstract

The purpose of the present paper is to determine the attitude of the speakers towards Mazatec in relation to Spanish. To do this, we analyzed the social factors that currently could influence the possible disappearance of the Mazatec.The data for the study comes frominterviews conducted on the 16thand 17th of March of 2012. We concludedthat Mazatec speakers maintainan attitude of preservation towards their native language, without rejecting Spanish as the official language.
