Abstract

Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s character was analyzed through his work and biography by Sigmund Freud in the article “Dostoyevsky and parricide” (1928). This paper gives context to the notion of parricide as a way to highlight how the text about Dostoyevsky embodies the Freudian Theory of Affects and also how Freud considers the literary work to be akin to the formation of the unconscious. Also under the same concept of parricide, this paper briefly presents the case of photographer Philippe Halsman, whose judicial proceedings took place during thesame period when Freud was writing his article on Dostoyevsky.
