Abstract

This essay compares the personalities and literary features of the two greatest writers of Russian Literature and, as George Steiner points out, the two greatest novelists in history. The introduction refers to the origins of Russian Literature, from its popular ancient sources to the dawn of the xix Century, when, with Pushkin, Russian Literature actually begins.
