The Islas Marías. Perspectives from Disability Studies.
Abstract
Abstract: The Islas Marias penal colony was founded in 1905. However, the mediatic interest on the islands began with the confinement of Madre Conchita in 1929. Therefore, we propose an analysis of literary and journalistic texts about the Islas Marias federal penal colony. Particularly, an analysis of the subaltern character from the perspective of Disability Studies of the novels La Isla (1938), Los muros de agua (1941) e Islas Marías (1956) confronted to the reportages La tumba del pacífico (1931), María Madre del Archipiélago. Islas Marías en el Pacífico (1937) and Islas Marías (1941).Downloads
