Maritime Societies Histories: A Comparison between Mexican and Southeast Asian Studies from the Author’s Experience in the Balangingi Samal’s Case.
Abstract
The present paper aims to, throughout a general comparison between the maritime histories published in Mexico and those that deal with insular Southeast Asia, make evident some limitations on the first one’s scopes, and to demonstrate that, following some of the second one’s approaches, studies with integral explanations about maritime societies can be accomplished. To sustain this, the paper will also present the author’s research on the Balangingi Samals, a maritime community in southern Philippines in the nineteenth century.Downloads
