Alejo Carpentier and the folk music
Abstract
In this essay I analyze the fundamental role of Alejo Carpentier as a musicologist, not only of operas, concerts and highbrow concerts, but also as a musicologist of folk Cuban music and Latin American popular music. I contemplate an outlook from the xix century until the mid xx, where the black musicians, composers, singers, dancers, fill the great national and international scene of rumba and beguine, passing from guaracha to son montuno. The American´s record Companies authentic monopolies, make known this music but also impose simple notations, uncomplicated rhythms, more commercial styles and a duration of melodies.Downloads
