Abstract

Iván S. Turgueniev is the most European of the great Russian writers ofthe xix century. He spent most of his life outside his country and was convinced that the best path for Russia was to follow West Europe, so he was considered an occidentalist by his fellow countrymen. His work deals with social issues but the main theme of his novels is love.
